In a landmark moment for Indian cinema, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) is set to be immortalized with a bronze statue of its lead stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, at Leicester Square in London. The unveiling is scheduled for October 20, 2025, coinciding with the film’s 30th anniversary.

This marks the first-ever statue of an Indian film to be placed at this iconic global cinema destination.

Iconic Pose, Legendary Film

The sculpture will depict the legendary duo in their memorable pose from the 1995 blockbuster. Directed by Aditya Chopra and produced by Yash Raj Films, DDLJ tells the story of Raj and Simran — two young NRIs who fall in love during a European vacation. A key scene from the movie was filmed at Leicester Square, making the statue's location deeply symbolic.

Joining the Global “Scenes in the Square” Movie Trail

The DDLJ statue will become part of London’s celebrated “Scenes in the Square” movie trail. Located along the eastern terrace outside the Odeon Cinema, it will stand alongside iconic figures such as Harry Potter and Laurel & Hardy, cementing Bollywood’s place in international pop culture.

A Symbol of Cultural Unity and Cinematic Reach

Mark Williams, Deputy CEO of the Heart of London Business Alliance, said the statue celebrates Bollywood’s global popularity and reflects London's diversity. “It’s an honour to welcome titans of international cinema like Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol to Leicester Square,” he said.

Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, also expressed pride in the moment, saying this tribute reflects the worldwide impact of Indian cinema and reinforces cinematic bridges between cultures.

DDLJ Musical Adaptation Also Set for 2025

In addition to the statue, the DDLJ legacy continues with a musical titled Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical, which is set to debut at the Manchester Opera House on May 29, 2025.
