Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Tasks are underway for the Dalai Lama’s celebrations for his 90th birthday which is to take place in the summer of July in 2025, as the elected leader of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Penpa Tsering, has stated.
Possible Successor Announcement
Tsering also stated that there is a possibility the Dalai Lama’s successor could be announced during the birthday celebrations. According to Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, he was to make a decision on the matter around the age of 90.
A statement was made by the Tibetan Lama on September 11 wherein the Tibetan Lama was quoted saying any decision on his successor would be taken after discussions with other Tibetan Buddhist leaders and the rest of the Tibetan population.
Successor to Be Born Outside China
The previous statements from the Dalai Lama’s writings articulate that his successor would be born outside of China. His justification was that that successor needs to continue the work of promoting universal compassion, act as a spiritual figurehead and represent the stance of the people of Tibet amonst the outside world.
Challenge to Beijing’s Authority
This argument defies the claim of Beijing as to having controlling power over the appointment of spiritual leaders to Tibet. The statement has since by ridiculed by Chinese authorities who as a counter argument claimed that of course it exlusively falls on Beijing to the deciding factor of the successor.
