The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at the Raipur and Bhilai homes of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday. The raids are part of an investigation into the ₹6,000 crore Mahadev app scam.
Officials said that the agency also searched the residences of a senior police officer and a close aide of the former chief minister.
Baghel Responds to CBI Presence
A post from Bhupesh Baghel’s official X account confirmed the CBI's presence. The statement said Baghel was scheduled to travel to Delhi for a committee meeting related to the AICC event in Ahmedabad on April 8 and 9. It mentioned that the CBI had arrived at his Raipur and Bhilai homes ahead of his departure.

Case Transferred to CBI from State Authorities
The CBI took over the case from the Chhattisgarh Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW). The earlier FIR included the names of Bhupesh Baghel, app promoters Ravi Uppal, Saurabh Chandrakar, Shubham Soni, Anil Kumar Agrawal, and 14 others.
Baghel had previously stated that the EOW’s case was politically driven.
Enforcement Directorate's Allegations
The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is conducting a parallel investigation, alleged that the Mahadev app operated as a platform for illegal betting. It reportedly enrolled users, created user IDs, and moved funds through a network of fake bank accounts.
