Days after Shiv Sena Yuva Sena General Secretary Rahool N Kanal (Shinde faction) requested the removal of comedian Kunal Kamra from BookMyShow, the ticketing platform has reportedly delisted the artist from its sale and artist directories.
Kanal, in a letter to BookMyShow, alleged that Kamra’s performances contain “divisive rhetoric” and promoting his events could harm public sentiment and order in Mumbai.
Official Reaction from Shiv Sena Leader
Following the delisting, Kanal thanked BookMyShow CEO Ashish Hemrajani, saying:
“Thank you for keeping such artists out of the list of pure entertainment… and removing him even from the search history.”
In his follow-up letter, Kanal praised the platform for its “commitment to peace” and “respect for public emotions,” adding that Mumbaikars respect art but not personal agendas.
BookMyShow’s Response
As of now, BookMyShow has not issued an official comment on the matter.
Background of the Controversy
Kamra’s recent performance at Habitat Studio in Mumbai, where he allegedly referred to Eknath Shinde as a “gaddar” (traitor), sparked controversy. Rahool Kanal was among a group of Shiv Sainiks booked for vandalising the venue in response.
The comedian is also facing legal pressure, with Mumbai Police issuing three summons for his personal appearance. Kamra, believed to be in Puducherry, has skipped all of them so far.
