NEW DELHI: The BJP on Wednesday described Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s praise of the government’s handling of the Russia-Ukraine War as acknowledging India’s diplomacy under the Modi government.
Prasad noted that Tharoor’s admission is akin to ‘better late than never,’ admitting that he was wrong in criticizing the government for not speaking against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Prasad said that the Modi government does what is best in the interest of the country.
“Anyone who follows international relations will agree with me that the government has proven its diplomatic prowess,” said BJP MP and national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi. “Both of these countries are in a state of conflict, but our Prime Minister had met their presidents and both treated him very warmly.”
As per Modi, India has undergone a transformational shift in its foreign policy, from being Non-Aligned throughout the Cold War to an ‘all-aligned’ approach today, he said. “This is what has been said by the senior congress leader, which is that India is trying to become a friend to the globe, and that is worryingly true,” Trivedi said.
Tharoor remarked on Tuesday that the policy implemented by India soon after the start of the conflict suggests India has a Prime Minister who can embrace the Presidents of Ukraine and Russi in a span of two weeks and be welcomed in both countries. *The Hill, Indian Express, NDTV*
The latter Minister of State for External Affairs stated, “I am still cleaning the omelet off my face because I am one of the few in the Indian parliament who actually thought we had botched Indian foreign policy in the Russia Ukraine external conflict some like it in July 2022.” On Wednesday he justified his different position claiming he spoke as an Indian and to him doesn’t understand there is politics with that. *Deccan Herald*
Sambit Patar, who is a BJP MP and also serves as national spokesperson for the party, claimed all head of Congress including president Mallikarjun Kharge, former president Rahul Gandhi, other head INDIA bloc claimed should applaud Tharoor and give him the kudos which go with his support.
