Bhumi Pednekar Makes Her OTT Debut with 'The Royals' on Netflix:

After spending nearly ten years in the film industry, actor Bhumi Pednekar is making her digital debut with a new web series. This marks an important milestone in the actress's career as her new series The Royals will be released on Netflix on May 9. With Bhumi having picked up many varied roles throughout her career, he explained why this was the one project that made her want to venture into the OTT space.

Why She Decided to Do The Royals

“Although some of the projects I turned down ended up becoming blockbusters, for some reason The Royals captured my attention,” she stated during an interview with Hindustan Times. The Royals were different. The romantic comedy nature of the show appealed to her as well.

“Rom-com is, hands down, my most favourite genre. I don't think we make enough of those,” shared Bhumi. It's no secret that she enjoys Mills & Boon novels and Korean dramas, so it comes as no surprise that she was desperate to pick up the script for this project.

First Reflection of the Script

Remarkably, Bhumi came across the script whilst recovering from dengue in a hospital. “The moment I started reading it, I didn’t get out of it since it’s my favorite genre, and I could not stop,” she said. Her previous Bollywood project, Bhakshak, had done well, and this made accepting the offer to get back Netflix easier. “For me, it was a yes right away.”

What’s Coming Up for ‘The Royals’

For the Royals, Bhumi plays a keen, career-driven female who gets swept into the world of Indian royalty. She is playing the part of the Indian prince Ishaan Khatter. “I don’t think I’ve done something like this. She said. “This is one space I have not really touched – urban glamour – but this show brings that out in me.”

Aside from the gorgeous cinematography and romantic storyline, Bhumi places much emphasis on the friendly and sisterly bonds of love and turns this kind of love into something that is truly inclusive. “Everyone will find something here,” she commented.
