Apple made major strides in their Enviromental Progress Report concerning Earth’s Day by announcing they have reduced their global green gas emission by more than 60% since 2015. This puts them closer to thier goal of achieving 100% carbon neutral emissions throughout the entirety of their supply chains and product life cycles by 2030.
Renewable Energy Resources
Apple’s supply chain now runs on 17.8 gigawatts of renewable power which, this past year, helped cut carbon emission by 21.8 million metric tons. This is a 17% increase from the year before.
Innovation in Recycled Technologies
It's noted that with every new device they release, they integrate more and more recycled materials. This has led to them achieving:
Recycling 99% of cobalt used to manufacture the batteries of Apple devices.
Apple products now contain magnets formed from recycled rare earth elements.
Sustained Moldering and Eco-Friendly Practices
26 of Apple’s semiconductor suppliers and all of thier display suppliers have been pledging to reduce industrial green-house gas emissions by 90% through the year 2030. With these goals in mind, Apple will further lower carbon emission levels and gain sustainability credentials.
Sustainable Products Take the Lead
Apple introduced their most eco-friendly MacBook Air to date, containing over 55% recycled material. The company also offers Apple Watch models that are carbon neutral, superseding other products in their efforts towards sustainable design.
Water Preservation Efforts Persist
Water usage is a different primary focus. Together with its partners, Apple has saved over 90 billion gallons of water since 2013, 14 billion of which were saved in 2024 alone.
