Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor had their first child, Raha Kapoor, in 2022. Since then, Alia has been very careful about managing her daughter’s screen time. As a mother, she has focused on ensuring that Raha’s surroundings afford her as little access to screens as possible.
Alia spoke about an interesting discussion with her mother Soni Razdan regarding the differing ways they approach managing screen time. Alia’s concern when it comes to restricting screen time for Raha made Soni reconsider her parenting practices during the time she let Alia sit in front of the television for far too long.
During the episode of Jay’s podcast interview with Alia, she stated, “I used to be very interested in television. I remember clearly that even when I was little, I clearly remember that. Actually, my mother and I talk about this a lot nowadays because she has been saying, ‘My God, was I the worst mother on the planet?’ She is very conscious about all the screen time her daughter is getting upbringing, Not that she has ever had any significant screen time. Honestly, she has not even bothered looking at the iPad.”
She elaborated, “Even if she is watching a song on television, I already am in the mentality of, we need to impose restrictions here. My mother stated, ‘Was I a terrible mother? Because we absolutely did let you sit in front of the TV... and that was pretty standard back in the day.’ I told her that no, you were not terrible. It was a new issue at that time.”
Alia reflected on how she felt her mother's sentiment of guilt by saying, “But yeah, I am really personally grateful, deeply grateful that she didn’t make me get away from a TV set because so much of my dreaming, imagining, getting lost in the world began from there.”
Alia in the news recently because, in a more private act of self-expression, she has taken all of the posts and pictures of Raha out from her Instagram account and set it so that only the pictures of Raha without her face are visible.
The move garnered a lot of attention, which was coupled with a lot of Alia’s fans speculating the reasons behind this. Alia, who has tried to maintain her daughter’s life private, is known to the public eye as someone who prefers keeping a low profile when it comes to her family matters. The actress has previously expressed her concerns over the impact of the digital world on children, especially with social media constantly invading privacy, and perhaps this is one of the many reasons Raha’s life has been kept under wraps.
In terms of work, Alia Bhatt was recently seen in Jigra with Vedang Raina and is now filming Alpha, a YRF spy thriller with Sharvari and Bobby Deol. Also, Alia is going to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War where Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal will also play prominent roles.
