Renowned Afghan pop singer Aryana Sayeed has officially entered the Hindi music scene with her debut track Rukna Nahi from the film My Melbourne. The anthology film is directed by celebrated Indian filmmakers Onir, Rima Das, Imtiaz Ali, and Kabir Khan.

Passion for Music Despite Cultural Challenges

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Aryana shared her deep-rooted love for singing, a passion that began during her early years. However, she recalled the hardships she faced due to a lack of family support. Afghan cultural norms, she said, often discourage women from pursuing music careers, creating an uphill battle for aspiring female singers.

Breaking Barriers with Determination

Living in London as an adult helped Aryana reconnect with her passion. She decided to defy societal expectations and pursue music despite opposition from her family. “They realized that I have a God-given voice,” she said, reflecting on how she eventually gained their acceptance.

A Contrast Between India and Afghanistan

Aryana compared her experiences with India, where music is deeply integrated into daily life. She observed that Indian culture supports musical aspirations far more than Afghanistan, where women often have to challenge both societal and familial restrictions to follow their dreams.

Dream Collaboration with Diljit Dosanjh

Aryana expressed her admiration for Punjabi music icon Diljit Dosanjh. “If I had the opportunity to sing with him, it would be so amazing,” she said, praising his musical style, lyrics, and energy. She described him as a refreshing presence in Indian music.

Bollywood Music Helped Her Learn Hindi

A long-time fan of Bollywood, Aryana shared that learning Hindi lyrics came naturally to her. Watching Hindi films and listening to songs since childhood helped her understand the language and its musical expressions with ease.
