The RG Kar case which led to immense violence in the state of West Bengal will finally be delivered judgement on the 18th of January by the designated case judge at Sealdah court. A doctor on duty at RG Kar Medical college was who was doing her rounds in the hospital was raped and murdered last year in August.
According to the hearing of the case, the Kolkata police had initially been probing the case but it later got transferred over to the CBI under the Calcutta High Court. While hearing the case, CBI made a request to impose a death penalty to Sanjay Roy, who was accused of being behind this heinous crime.
The hearing in the trial was completed on Thursday, and the additional district and sessions judge of Sealdah court announced that the final decision will come out on January 18th. While there were other people involved in the crime, the parents of the victim post graduate trainee viewed that authorities will try to arrest other criminals involved and put them on trial too.
On August 9, the body of the victim in the case was discovered in the seminar room of the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital while Roy went missing. The Kolkata Police apprehended him the subsequent day. On November 12, Rane and Roy's case involving allegations of rape and murder began.
Outrage on behalf of the nations
The assassination prompted large scale outrage in the nation along with extended protests by junior doctors of Kolkata who protested over the injustice done to the citizen and demanded a stronger security for hospitals in the area.
Furthermore, the protests forced the residents blame the government of West Bengal, pushing for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and indulging them in other issues of governance and crime control, all attributed to the incident earlier.
Other cultures promoted the accusation of ‘culture of threat’ in medical settings as a reason to why the postgraduate trainee died. At unfolding the incident, Financial irregularities related to theincharge of the hospital, the health department and a police personnel from Kolkata came into light.
Sandeep Ghosh was held responsible by the protestors terming the medic a collateral to the malpractices that where unearthed by the Ghosh. Additionally, these protestors called strike and demanded for the Pune Police Commissioner Vineet Goel’s dismissal saying that he was careless while settling the dispute.
