Commencing January 26, it is henceforth required that all two-wheeler riders in Lucknow wear helmets when seeking to refuel their vehicles or else they shall be refused the fuel known as ‘no helmet, no fuel’.

This is a strong warning! You cannot be sure asking for fuel at the stations Lucknow bike without carrying headgear. If they do not wear helmet or protective headgear starting January 26, 2022, two wheeler riders in Lucknow might be denied fuel at the filling stations. As a result of Shree Yogi Adityanath's order and the efforts made by the Transport Department to reduce the incidence of fatalities involving two wheeled motorcycles, Surya Pal Gangwar, the Lucknow District Magistrate directed application of the strict “No Helmet, No Fuel” policy.

There are so many fatalities in road accidents related to two wheeler use because the rider or the pillion passenger fail to wear helmets, Mr Gangwar said. "It's imperative to create awareness about the importance of wearing a safety device such as a helmet."

As per the DMs orders, petrol pump operators are required to put big posters in their premises inorder to inform the public about a specific new policy. Additionally, it was added that, All two wheeler drivers will now be required to wear protective headgear that follows the BIS standards as specified under Section 129 of motor vehicles act 1988, and Rule 201 of the motor vehicles rules of 1998. This will be enforced by the petrol pump operators themselves.

According to Singhाजी’s statement, severe penalties will now be imposed under section 177 of the Motor vehicles act 178. Furthermore, petrol pump operators are now required to have fully functional CCTV systems ready at the sites to avoid any disagreements and further, be sure to resolve the issues. Previously, the state informed the general public that there will be a “No Helmet, No Fuel System” enforced for every state in order to try to revert the increasing number of road accidents.

As brought forth by UP Commissioner in his speech: “A greater percentage of the riders who do not wear helmets, tend to die in two wheeler accidents” My viewpoint is, even after all efforts they did manage to be scared out of their money with fines in both form of insurance and medical bills. Why do repairs and maintenance work on two wheelers even cost less than that?

The central government, as per its statistics, Last year in 2022, Uttar Pradesh had 36875 registered cases of road collisions, and out of these 24109 people died in the accidents while 21694 people got injured. 2022 statistics also show that in the year fours: 1408 road accidents occurred, 643 people died, and 994 were injured.
