Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has written a letter to Delhi CM Atishi expressing concern over the condition of farmers in Delhi. He said that the AAP government in Delhi is extremely indifferent towards farmers. The Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi has no sympathy for farmers. He also said that Kejriwal and Atishi in Delhi have never taken proper decisions in the interest of farmers. Kejriwal has always taken political advantage by making big announcements before elections.

Shivraj said that as soon as Kejriwal came to power, instead of taking decisions in the public interest, he started crying about his own problems. AAP has been in power in Delhi for 10 years, but former CM Kejriwal has always cheated the farmers. The Aam Aadmi Party government did not implement the farmer-friendly schemes of the central government in Delhi.

Delhi farmers are suffering losses

  • The Agriculture Minister said that the farmers of Delhi are being deprived of the benefits of the welfare schemes of the Centre. The AAP government in Delhi has adopted an irresponsible attitude towards the farmers. Farmers are not able to avail the benefits of many schemes including Integrated Horticulture Mission, National Agricultural Development Scheme, Seed Village Program.
  • Due to non-implementation of the central agricultural schemes in Delhi, farmer brothers and sisters are not able to avail the benefits of many schemes including establishment of nurseries and tissue culture, supply of planting material, construction of infrastructure for post-harvest management, new orchards, poly houses and cold chain subsidy.
  • Due to non-implementation of Agriculture Development Scheme, the farmers of Delhi are not able to avail the benefits of schemes like agricultural mechanization, micro irrigation, soil health, crop residue management, Traditional Agriculture Development Scheme, agro forestry and subsidy for crop diversification.
  • Due to non-implementation of Seed Village Programme in Delhi, benefits like distribution of seeds, seed testing, improvement in infrastructure for laboratories, assistance from seed certification agencies, assistance for traditional variety of seeds and subsidy for ensuring quality of seeds are not being availed.
  • In Delhi, registration of farmer equipment including tractors and harvesters is being done under the commercial vehicle category, due to which farmers have to pay higher prices.
  • The AAP government talks about free electricity, but has fixed high rates for electricity for farmers in Delhi.
  • In villages along the Yamuna, electricity connections of irrigation equipment are being cut off, putting the livelihood of farmers at risk.

Rise above politics and take decisions in the interest of farmers

The Agriculture Minister wrote in the letter that political competition should not become an obstacle in farmer welfare. Farmer welfare is the duty of all governments. The AAP government should rise above party politics and take decisions in the interest of farmers. The Aam Aadmi Party government should provide relief to the farmers of Delhi by implementing the central schemes. He said that the farmers of Delhi met me, they are not getting the benefits of many schemes. They did not even send proposals for our Seed Village scheme. We have a mechanization scheme, micro irrigation scheme, but drop more crop, there are not one but many schemes, I have mentioned in detail in the letter.

Letter from Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Delhi government is not sending the proposal

Shivraj told that the central government is ready to give money from its side, but because of the Delhi government, the farmers are not getting the benefits of those schemes. He said, "The center does not send money on its own. The center sends money for schemes on the proposal of the state and for many schemes, no proposals came to the central government from Delhi, so the benefits of those schemes were not received. There are many schemes in which 60% money is given by the central government and the state has to contribute the remaining 40%. We release money on the basis of the state's proposal, they did not send the proposals, so I have written a letter."
