At a press conference in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the transformation of Uttar Pradesh over the past eight years under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Once labeled a BIMARU (backward) state, UP is now being described as the engine of India’s economic progress, according to the Chief Minister.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's governance model of “service, security, and good governance” as the core reason behind this turnaround.
Agriculture Growth a Highlight
CM Adityanath pointed to a major revival in the agriculture sector. He noted that before 2017, farming in the state was largely ignored, but reforms since then have led to significant improvement.
- Agriculture growth rate: From 5% in 2016–17 to over 13.5% now
- Food grain production: Increased from 557 lakh metric tonnes to 668 lakh metric tonnes – nearly a 20% rise
- The Rs 36,000 crore farmer loan waiver in the government’s first cabinet meeting set the tone for inclusive rural development
