Samajwadi Party MP from Sambhal, Ziaur Rahman Barq, is currently facing two serious legal issues. The Sambhal police have issued a notice to him regarding rioting charges and summoned him for questioning. If his explanation fails to satisfy the authorities, he could be arrested.
In a separate matter, Barq is also under scrutiny for allegedly constructing a house without proper approvals. The house, located in the Deepasrai area of Sambhal, was recently measured by officials, raising the possibility of bulldozer action against it.
Authorities Investigate Alleged Illegal Construction
A 25-member team from the Public Works Department (PWD) measured Barq’s residence, supported by 30 police personnel for security. The inspection lasted around 40 minutes and was conducted by two Assistant Engineers and three Junior Engineers. Officials claim that the house, built 1.5 to 2 years ago, lacks approved construction permits.
Barq was reportedly issued three notices and summoned 15 times regarding the construction but has not submitted any documentation so far.
Legal and Political Implications for Barq
Barq is accused of violating the Regulation of Building Operation Act by constructing the house without approval from the regulated area authority. Though Barq argues that the house is not in his name, he has not been able to provide evidence to support this claim.
The inspection report will be submitted to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), and a court hearing is scheduled for April 5. Depending on the findings, the house may be demolished.
Risk to MP Status and Legal Defense
If found guilty of violating construction laws, Barq could face severe consequences, including losing his MP seat. As a defense, he claims the property was built during his grandfather Shafiqur Rehman Barq’s time and not under his ownership.
Barq’s father, Mamlukur Rehman Barq, has also filed an application to be recognized as the legal heir, aiming to shift responsibility. However, the SDM has rejected this application. An appeal has been filed in the District Magistrate Court, with a hearing scheduled for April 4.
