In a significant development related to the Sambhal violence in Uttar Pradesh, police have served a notice to Sambhal MP Ziaur Rahman Barq. The notice was delivered late Tuesday night by teams from Sambhal and Delhi Police at the Western Court Guest House in New Delhi, where Barq is staying during the ongoing Parliament session. He has been asked to appear before the SIT on April 8.
Barq has already been summoned multiple times regarding the construction at his house. This marks the 15th summons, including one scheduled for April 5 to submit house documents and the building map.
FIR Filed Against Barq, But Arrest Stayed
Barq is a named accused in the November 24 Sambhal riots. Despite the FIR, he has not appeared before the SIT so far. The Allahabad High Court has stayed his arrest, but the case against him remains active. Another individual, Zafar Ali, has already been arrested for allegedly inciting violence, and police are investigating Barq’s role.
Repeated Non-Compliance in House Construction Case
In a separate matter, Barq has also been issued multiple notices for unauthorized construction. He has been called 14 times since December 5 to provide required documents related to his house's construction, allegedly done without proper approval. A 15th notice has been issued for April 5.
Authorities have inspected and measured his property. If Barq fails to submit the documents, further action could be taken under the Regulation of Building Act.
81 Arrests Made So Far in Sambhal Violence
Police have arrested 81 individuals in the Sambhal violence case. The investigation is ongoing, and if further evidence links Barq to the incident, he could face more legal complications. Meanwhile, Barq has been staying away from Sambhal, citing his mother’s illness, according to family members.
