In February 2025, ABC announced that The Bachelorette would not premiere in July, breaking a three-year tradition of summer releases. Though the series has not been officially canceled, a report from Deadline suggested it’s unlikely to air in 2025.
Jesse Palmer Reassures Fans: “It’s Not Going Away”
Franchise host Jesse Palmer addressed concerns during a February 2025 episode of the Playing the Field podcast. “The good news is I know it’s not going away,” Palmer said. While avoiding details about production decisions, he added, “I know that when it does [return], I just think it’s going to be absolutely tremendous.”
Palmer also emphasized that summer breaks aren’t unprecedented for the series.
Controversy Behind the Scenes: Toxic Work Environment Allegations
Following ABC’s announcement, multiple current and former staffers told Deadline that the franchise had become a "toxic" and "hostile" workplace. The claims target showrunners Claire Freeland and Bennett Graebner, who took over after creator Mike Fleiss left in 2023.
Allegations include verbal and psychological abuse, unclear communication, and management through fear. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Television Group confirmed the studio is investigating. Meanwhile, Freeland and Graebner’s legal representative, Michael Weinsten, stated they were “stunned and saddened” by the claims.
Leadership Changes Shake Up the Franchise
In March 2025, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that co-executive producers Michael Margolis and Keely Booth had exited the show. Just a week later, it was reported that Freeland and Graebner had also stepped down from their roles.
These departures suggest a major transition period for the franchise and may explain the delay in launching season 22.
No Official Return Date Yet, But Optimism Remains
With no scheduled premiere for The Bachelorette season 22, its return remains unclear. However, some insiders see the break as a chance for a fresh and impactful comeback.
Season 21 Bachelorette Jenn Tran commented on the delay, saying, “The Bachelorette usually airs in the summer when people are travelling — I heard that it doesn't do as well as The Bachelor.”
Bachelor in Paradise Set to Return in 2025
While The Bachelorette is on pause, fans can still look forward to Bachelor in Paradise season 10, which is expected to return later in 2025. ABC has not yet confirmed a premiere date.
