Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that Waqf boards in India possess extensive landholdings but have historically failed to utilize these assets for the benefit of the poor. Addressing a public rally in Hisar, Haryana, he emphasized that the land mafia, not the needy, had gained from these resources.

PM Modi said the newly passed Waqf (Amendment) Act would end such misuse. He clarified that under the revised law, Waqf boards cannot claim land belonging to Adivasis, ensuring that marginalized Muslims, including Pasmanda Muslims, receive their fair share.

Attack on Congress Over Waqf and Reservation Policies

The Prime Minister accused the Congress of spreading a “vote bank virus” by opposing the new Waqf law. He claimed the Congress had historically used the Constitution to maintain power, rather than to promote equality, citing the Emergency period as an example.

He also criticized Congress for politicizing reservations. According to Modi, Congress introduced religion-based reservations in government tenders, which he says contradicts Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision.

Support for Uniform Civil Code

Modi pointed out that a uniform civil code has already been implemented in Uttarakhand, while Congress continues to oppose it. He reiterated that the Constitution had envisioned such a code, but Congress never took action.

Government Achievements in Infrastructure

Highlighting achievements under his government, Modi noted that India had just 74 airports until 2014. The number has now doubled to over 150. He also mentioned that airline companies have ordered 2,000 new aircraft, indicating growth in the aviation sector.

He emphasized that the government's focus is twofold: boosting national infrastructure and advancing the welfare of the poor.
