During his two-day official visit to Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked on the “Silk Route of the 21st century” which is the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC). The multifaceted India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC), which was announced at the G20 Summit in September 2023, marks a significant shift in the region's physical, digital, and economic interdependencies across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

In the Interview, Modi referred India and Saudi Arabia as central roles for shaping IMEEC success. He also described the IMEEC as “a vital catalyst for trade, travel, and economic progress.” The corridor was launched in unison by India, Saudi Arabia and the European Union, and UAE, and France, Germany, Italy, and the United States at the G20 Conference which was convened in New Delhi.

PM Modi expresses in the press noting that “This kind of infrastructure is there for centuries to come.”, emphasizing the enhancement of regional economic integration and employment opportunities.

As for IMEEC, PM Modi stated that it will:

Enable better physical & virtual contextual interaction among the 3 continents.

Have a positive impact on reliable global supply chains.

Streamline custom regulations to improve trade while lowering logistics expenditure.

Aid in the challenge of minimizing emission of gasses responsible for global warming.

Encourage the development of clean energy technologies, green hydrogen included.

Saudi Arabia-India Collaboration Is The Foundation

Focusing on bilateral collaboration, PM Modi said that there is an ongoing collaboration of im India and Saudi Arabia under IMEEC to achieve mutual goals such as multi-modal transport systems, digital infrastructure, integrated electrical grids, among others.

Along with clean and green hydrogen, the corridor’s sustainable development model fuels alignment with climate change targets internationally.

IMEEC: A Roadmap Towards Global Growth Strides

India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor aims to be a flagship project for strategic collaboration and sustainable development. This initiative will transform decades of global trade routes and economic cooperation on infrastructure, logistics, energy, digital connectivity.
