Another proud moment has been added to the history of Indian cricket. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has been elected the new President of the International Cricket Council (ICC). At the age of 35, Jay Shah has become the youngest chairman of the ICC. On this occasion, former and current cricket stars of India have congratulated him and expressed hope that he will play an important role in the development of cricket.

Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, former captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, and star batsman Virat Kohli have congratulated Jay Shah on being elected ICC President. Sachin Tendulkar wrote on the social media platform X that passion for the game and desire to do well are essential qualities for a cricket administrator, which Jay Shah has shown brilliantly during his tenure as BCCI Secretary. Tendulkar said that Shah has established BCCI as a top organization by giving priority to both women’s and men’s cricket and other boards can also follow it.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who was the BCCI president during Shah’s first term, also wished him all the best in his new role as ICC president. Indian team’s star batsman Virat Kohli congratulated Shah on his new role and wished him a bright future. Current Indian team captain Rohit Sharma also congratulated Jay Shah, while Jasprit Bumrah also congratulated Shah and wrote that his passion will take the game to the next level. 

Big responsibilities in front of Shah

Jay Shah, who will be the fifth Indian to become the ICC President, will step down as BCCI Secretary on December 1 and will replace Greg Barclay. Shah said in a statement that while T20 cricket is exciting, it is equally important to give priority to Test cricket. He stressed that his efforts will be focused in this direction to attract cricketers to the longer format. Jay Shah also did a great job as BCCI Secretary.
