Mimoh Chakraborty, son of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, made his acting debut in 2008 with the film Jimmy. However, the film failed at the box office, and Mimoh did not receive the response he had anticipated.
In a recent interview with Digital Commentary, Mimoh revealed how he coped with the failure of his first film and expressed gratitude towards Salman Khan and his family for their support during his debut.
Salman Khan’s Role in Promoting Jimmy
Mimoh shared that Salman Khan was very supportive and treated him like a younger brother. He recalled that Salman suggested attaching the teaser of Jimmy with his successful film Partner, which gave Mimoh early exposure.
He also noted that Sohail Khan had named his film Jimmy and that the Khan family had a long-standing relationship with his father, Mithun Chakraborty.
Audience Reaction and Personal Disappointment
Reflecting on the early excitement, Mimoh recalled watching Partner in a packed theater with his family. The audience responded enthusiastically to his teaser, which made him believe he was on the path to stardom.
However, the actual release day brought disappointment. "The phone stopped ringing, cheques bounced – all within a flash," he said. The negative reception impacted him deeply, and he admitted to staying indoors for nearly a year, feeling as if his world had collapsed.
Career Setbacks and Recent Projects
Jimmy, directed by Raj N Sippy and co-starring Vivana Singh and Rahul Dev, was a commercial failure, grossing just ₹1.86 crore. Mimoh's following films also did not perform well, further affecting his career trajectory.
In 2023, he made a comeback with a supporting role in Jogira Sara Ra Ra alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He later appeared in the Telugu film Nenekkadunna.
More recently, he was seen in the Netflix series Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, which features actors like Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jeet, and Chitrangada Singh. The series was well-received by the audience.
