The state Congress president said he also urged for relief packages and grants to the urban local bodies, panchayati raj, and autonomous district councils (ADCs) affected by the violence. Keisham said the functioning of the ADCs has been disrupted and the local economy has come to a standstill.
Woman shot dead by militants.
A woman working in a paddy field was shot dead by militants in Bishnupur district on Saturday. The incident took place in the Satan area when the woman had gone to tend the crop along with other farmers when the militants opened fire from a hillock. Officials said the woman died on the spot. They said tension prevailed in the village following the incident and locals alleged that the central forces deployed in the area were not taking action to prevent such attacks.
Officials said that additional security forces have been sent to the area. The incident took place two days after a 31-year-old woman was killed in an attack by unidentified persons in Jairon Hmar village of Jiribam district on Thursday night. More than 200 people have been killed and thousands have been rendered homeless in the ethnic conflict that began between the Meitei and Kuki communities in May last year.
