As per a report from PTI, Malayalam film actor Shine Tom Chacko was arrested on Saturday for posing possible involvement in a drug related nexus. He was charged under Section 27 (use of drugs) and Section 29 (assistance and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
This follows nearly four hours of questioning by the Kochi City Police after he reportedly tried to circumvent a drug bust earlier in the week.
Attempt to Escape During Police Raid on Hotel
Sources suggest that the incident occurred on Wednesday night when Shine allegedly escaped from a third floor hotel room in Kochi as the DANSAF team was purportedly arriving. He is said to have escaped off a sheet reportedly hanging from the second floor before running down the stairs.
Medical examination, following his detention, purports additional action as mandated by law.
In other developments, actress Vincy Aloshious who starred alongside Shine in Soothravakyam lodged a complaint against Shine claiming that he indulged in substance abuse while filming.
In her complaint, Vincy alleged that Shine exhibited some forms of erratic and concerning behavior on set. She stated that during one rehearsal, he appeared to be inhaling a white powdery substance, which gave rise to alarming issues of substance use during filming.
Breach of Confidentiality Often Makes It More Controversial
Vincy submitted her complaint expecting confidentiality, only to later voice dissatisfaction claiming that her identity was not kept confidential as there was no protection. This explicitly breaches the trust given, which has increased the scrutiny over how such matters of delicate concern are managed in Mollywood.
What Is To Come?
Investigating allegations of drug use within certain circles and evasion tactics surrounding Shine Tom Chacko are still active. In discussions regarding increasing cases of substance public misuse, the professional attitude in the South Indian cinema, Vincy Aloshious’ complaint along with the actor’s arrest have served as renewed fuel to the debate.
