As Bihar transitions out of its winter cycle, the weather is currently in a "hybrid" phase. While the afternoons are starting to hint at the upcoming summer with bright, direct sunshine, the mornings and nights remain firmly gripped by a lingering chill.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this stable but dual-natured weather pattern is expected to continue for the next week with no drastic shifts in temperature.
Current Weather Snapshot
The Daytime Surge: In cities like Patna and Gaya, maximum temperatures are hovering between 24°C and 28°C. The lack of cloud cover and weak Western Disturbances have allowed the sun's intensity to increase, making the afternoons feel significantly warmer.
The Nighttime Chill: Despite the warm days, the mercury is still dipping to 10°C–14°C at night. In fact, Rajgir recently recorded a low of 8.5°C, reminding residents that winter hasn't completely packed its bags.
The 15-Year Record: Patna recently saw its highest minimum temperature in mid-February in 15 years, signaling that while it's still "cool," the overall baseline is shifting toward a warmer spring.
Why Is the Weather "Dry"?
Meteorologists attribute the current dry spell and rising daytime heat to two factors:
Weak Western Disturbances: Usually, these systems bring rain and clouds that keep temperatures in check. Their absence this year has led to clear skies and more direct heating of the ground.
Decreasing Westerlies: The cold winds from the Himalayas are losing their strength, allowing the local heat to build up during the day.
The IMD Forecast for the Coming Week
No Rain: The state is expected to remain completely dry with no rainfall predicted for at least the next 7 days.
Morning Fog: Shallow to moderate fog may still appear in isolated pockets, especially in North Bihar (districts like Madhepura and Purnia), but it will dissipate quickly as the sun rises.
Temperature Stability: The IMD predicts "no significant change" in the current temperature range, meaning the "warm day, cool night" cycle is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
