In a high-stakes meeting led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand Cabinet took six major decisions that will have a direct impact on the state’s workforce, infrastructure, and governance. The most significant move and one that has brought immediate relief to thousands of employees—is the government’s decision to withdraw the proposed amendment to the Bonus Act.

Here is a breakdown of the key outcomes from the cabinet meeting:

1. Withdrawal of the Bonus Act Amendment

In a major "U-turn" following pressure from employee unions and public sentiment, the cabinet decided to withdraw the amendment to the Bonus Act. This move ensures that the existing rights and bonus structures for state employees remain protected. The government’s decision is being seen as a strategic move to maintain labor harmony and avoid prolonged strikes.

2. Boost to Rural Infrastructure

The cabinet approved a significant budget for the development of rural roads and bridges under state-funded schemes. This is part of the "Viksit Uttarakhand" vision, aiming to provide all-weather connectivity to remote Himalayan villages, which is crucial for both local residents and the state's tourism-driven economy.

3. Strengthening Education & Recruitment

To address the shortage of staff in government schools, the cabinet gave the green light for the creation of new administrative and teaching posts. This also includes streamlining the recruitment process to ensure that vacancies are filled faster through the State Public Service Commission.

4. Urban Development & Planning

A new framework for urban land use was approved to manage the rapid expansion of cities like Dehradun and Rishikesh. The goal is to curb illegal constructions while making the process of obtaining building permits more transparent and digital.

5. Healthcare Expansion

The cabinet cleared the path for the upgradation of several district hospitals into multi-specialty units. Special funds were allocated for the procurement of advanced medical equipment (like MRI and CT scan machines) in hilly regions to reduce the dependence of locals on private hospitals in the plains.

6. Policy on Renewable Energy

Reflecting the state's commitment to "Green Energy," the cabinet approved incentives for small-scale hydropower and solar projects. This policy aims to make Uttarakhand a power-surplus state while creating local jobs in the renewable energy sector.
