Kathua Terror Attack: It has been three days since the terrorist attack on the army contingent in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, but the terrorists who ambushed them have not been traced yet. Five soldiers were martyred in the terrorist attack while five were injured. There is mourning in the homes of the martyred soldiers. After the attack, the army has intensified the search operation in the area. On Wednesday, officials said that the search operation is going on to search for terrorists in the dense forests. So far 24 people have been detained and are being questioned. The scope of the search operation has been expanded to include large areas of the adjoining districts of Udhampur and Kathua, including Basantgarh, Seoj (a high-altitude area of Udhampur), and the upper areas of Bani, Daggar, and Kindli in Kathua district.
Encounter with terrorists in Doda
Special forces have been deployed to expand the search operation for the terrorists. Officials have also involved the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the investigation of the attack. State Director General of Police (DGP) R.R. Swain arrived in the Machedi area to monitor the operation. Officials said that the search operation for the terrorists has been expanded to large areas of Udhampur and Kathua districts and special forces have been deployed to carry out targeted operations against the terrorists. While the operation was still going on in Kathua, firing started in Ghadi Bhagwa forest, located 35 km east of Doda town. The encounter started after a search and cordon operation was launched based on intelligence about the presence of at least three foreign terrorists.
The fifth incident of terrorism within five months
Heavily armed terrorists on Monday hurled grenades and opened indiscriminate fire on two army vehicles at around 3.30 pm on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar hill road near Badnota village, about 150 km from district headquarters Kathua. Five soldiers were martyred in this fifth incident of terrorism in Jammu region within five months. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi paid tribute to the martyred soldiers of Uttarakhand – Naib Subedar Anand Singh, Havildar Kamal Singh, Rifleman Anuj Negi, Naik Vinod Singh and Rifleman Adarsh Negi. A grand wreath-laying ceremony was held at Pathankot military base in Punjab, after which their bodies were taken to their home state for last rites.
