Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna has taken ado for the shocking claims Levelled against Justice Yashwant Varma of the Delhi High Court by appointing a three-member committee to investigate the authorities. This came after the cash controversy where around two crore rupees in cash were supposedly found from the Judges residence. A large amount of money in cash was seized after the house was searched.

The in-house investigation came about after the CJI of the Delhi High Court D K Upadhyay reported said allegations in depth. CJI Khanna not only decided to initiate a probe but also countermanded standing orders to Justice Varma to stop all judicial work obtain due course.

In what appears to be an attempt at fostering goodwill, Open access will be granted to all information pertaining to Justice Varma's allegations and the subsequent inquiry as undertaken by the Supreme Court. Also to be made freely available is the Defense which Varma authored and other assorted files discovered in the course of the investigation. These will be published in a few days on the official Supreme Court site.

The investigation and the suspension from judicial duties highlights the severity of the issue and the judicial body's absolute disregard toward ethical violation. The outcome of the committee's findings is bound to be instrumental in deciding Justice Varma's future and upholding the systemic integrity of the judiciary in India.
