
A segmental launching gantry being used for the construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train viaduct accidentally slipped from position near Vatva (Ahmedabad) around 11 PM on Sunday, March 23, 2025, affecting an adjoining railway line and disrupting train services, officials confirmed.
No Injuries, But Major Train Disruptions
According to the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the incident did not result in any casualties or structural damage, but led to significant disruption in rail traffic.
“The gantry was retracting after completing the launching of a concrete girder when it accidentally skidded. There has been no damage to the erected structure,” NHSRCL said in a statement.
Railway officials from the Ahmedabad division said efforts were underway to restore the affected track using heavy-duty road cranes.
Train Services Affected
The incident impacted the down line between Vatva and Ahmedabad stations, resulting in:
- 25 trains fully cancelled
- 15 trains partially cancelled
- 5 trains rescheduled
- 6 trains diverted

- Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Express
- Vadodara-Vatva Intercity
- Ahmedabad-Valsad Gujarat Queen
- Jamnagar-Vadodara Intercity
- Vadnagar-Valsad-Vadnagar Express
- Vatva-Anand MEMU
Rescheduled Trains Include:
- Ahmedabad-MGR Chennai Central Humsafar Express
- Rajkot-Secunderabad Express
A helpline number has also been issued by railway authorities to assist affected passengers.
Emergency Response at Site
Senior NHSRCL officials along with police and fire services were deployed at the site to monitor the situation. The construction site is part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor, India’s flagship bullet train project.
