
How Super Overs Work in IPL 2025
- Super Overs will continue until a winner is found, but all must be completed within one hour of the match ending.
- The first Super Over must begin within 10 minutes of the main match ending.
- If the first Super Over is tied, the next one must start within 5 minutes.
- One unsuccessful DRS review per Super Over is allowed for each team.
Super Over Rules
- Each team gets one over of six balls. The team scoring more runs wins.
- If a team loses two wickets, their Super Over innings ends.
- If a Super Over is tied, another Super Over will be played.
- The Super Over will be played on the same pitch as the match, unless changed by the umpires.
- The team batting second in the match will bat first in the Super Over.
- Only players from the main match (including concussion substitutes) can participate.
- Penalty time from the main match carries into the Super Over.
Rules for Subsequent Super Overs (If the First Super Over is Tied)
- The team that batted second in the first Super Over will bat first in the next.
- The same ball from the previous Super Over must be used.
- The fielding side must bowl from the opposite end to the previous Super Over.
- Players dismissed in any previous Super Over cannot bat again.
- Bowlers who bowled in the previous Super Over cannot bowl again.
What Happens If Super Overs Cannot Be Completed?
- If Super Overs cannot be completed due to weather or other reasons, the match will be declared a tie, and points will be shared between the teams.
