Yes, it is much pricier than what consumers anticipated. No, it doesn’t fit the mould of a more affordable Apple device that buyers had become accustomed to, like the iPhone SE. Even though it remains the most economical newest model at ₹59,999, which makes it the most economical iPhone, it is nevertheless a new iphone and is definitely and on the expensive side. It has been a few weeks since I began using the iPhone 16e as my daily driver. This is not a review on the iPhone 16e, but there is something about this phone that makes it quite a captivating one.

Changing from an Android device to an iPhone can be a big step, especially if you've being using Android for many years. You may be stuck in a particular way of doing things or you may just have never felt inclined in making such a switch. But if you are someone ready to finally experience the hype that comes around an Apple product, this might just be the perfect device for you to start with.

I understand the criticisms regarding the 120 Hz refresh rate or the “just” single camera, which are features found in most Android phones. However, the iPhone, and even at a value conscious price point such as India, is still viewed as a long term purchase and Apple does offer a lot in longevity, software support, privacy, and ease of use.

So why is the new iPhone 16e an Apple product that first-time iPhone buyers and those switching over from Android should consider?

There has been a perception that iPhones have a higher resale value over many Android devices. The 16e is expected to maintain a high resale value. I assume this by the fact that iPhones are selling like hot cakes and are here to stay for a while so its expected resale value especially when its still relevant is quite high.

This is amazing for those individuals who do not change their phones often. There is no need to fear your phone getting old and insecure after a few years as you can continue to use it and confidently know that you are receiving the most up to date features and security refreshes along the way.

And it is not only software support - there is also hardware support. iPhones are extremely durable and age well, and this is largely due to the fact that Apple focuses on performance and durability. An iPhone 16e will still be functioning perfectly a couple of years down the line, unlike many Android phones. It is not shocking to see many people still using an iPhone X or iPhone 11, years down the line and the devices still operate smoothly.

Switching from Android to iOS is far easier.

A primary reason that people are skeptical about changing from Android to iPhone is the data transfer. However, Apple has simplified the entire experience with its Move to iOS app.

You can transfer your WhatsApp Chat History, Contacts, Messages, Photos and videos, Calendar Events, Email accounts, and some apps (when available on iOS) using this application.

Overall, it's an effortless procedure which significantly reduces the hassle of changing to a new device.

One more thing? If you are an existing user of Google services, like Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive, these services integrate effortlessly on iOS. Most people who switch devices often worry about losing their favorite applications, but with this problem, those concerns simply melt away.

The hallmark of iOS is its simplicity. As always, Apple's greatest strength has been in maintaining simplicity. For new Android immigrants, iOS is very straightforward to use. It's not cluttered with bloatware or settings buried into user-interface hierarchies. It’s a smooth streamlined experience. The Apple Apps are also well optimized, hence they do not lag. And yes, without 90Hz or 120Hz refresh rates, the system animations are still smooth. There are no random duplicate apps (unlike Android phones that come with both Google and manufacturer apps for the same thing). Then there is iCloud which makes keeping backups as well as restoring them easy. Though Apple has given a few nods to Android in terms of iOS updates, it has always been less fuss. Yes, Android is amazing, loaded with benefits, but the iOS experience is not overwhelming, at least.

The issue of maintaining one's privacy online is paramount

Switching to an iPhone is a no-brainer if privacy concerns you (and it should). Apple is known to have one of the strongest stands about privacy in the world of technology. There is App Tracking Transparency – apps are required to request permission to track your usage. You receive privacy labels on apps – meaning you can tell what data an app gathers. Features such as Mail Privacy Protection stops emails senders from knowing whether you have opened the email or not. Safari has anti-tracking features that prevent advertisers from stalking you online.

Apple, unlike Android phones, does not comes with a lot of preloaded apps from the makers of the phones that spy on users. You own your information and that is greatly appreciated.

The Apple Ecosystem — if you want it

A bonus of having an iPhone is its compatibility with other Apple devices such as Macs, iPads, Apple Watches, and AirPods. The compatibility is further enhanced with AirDrop's instant file-sharing and the seamless functionality of iMessage and FaceTime across Apple devices. That said, complete immersion into the Apple ecosystem is not a necessity. Whether you're looking to purchase the iPhone 16e or any other variant, they are all capable smartphones independently and work efficiently even if you are on a Windows PC or rather prefer certain services from Google.

The iPhone 16e is a great purchase option if you are looking to buy an iPhone for the first time or switching from an Android phone. This phone is a better choice when compared to the iPhone 15 or the iPhone 14. Overall, the iPhone 16e captures everything that Apple has to offer without requiring you to foot the overpriced cost associated with the Pro models, making it a great entry point for users looking to join the iPhone family.

If you believe that the iPhone 15, with its Dual Cameras and Dynamic Island feature, is a better pick, then think again. The iPhone 15 comes with an A16 processor, which was introduced with the iPhone 14 – therefore it is a fast, but an ‘old’, processor. Do not forget that the iPhone 15 will never support Apple Intelligence and additional features. You may consider Apple Intelligence to be something you do not use, or perceive it to be overly 'gimmicky'. But you can trust the fact that Apple is going to improve its AI in the future, that much is certain. It offers better value than the others even if the price is above what most would consider reasonable, and although the iPhone 16e doesn't meet the expectations, it is a new generation iPhone and does a lot many things better than its in-house competition.
