Former Karnataka's Director General of Police (DGP), Om Prakash, was discovered dead at his residence located in HSR Layout of Bengaluru. Sources claim his wife, Pallavi, had purportedly poured chilli powder into his eyes and proceeded to stab him several times while he tried to get rid of the stinging.
Detained Suspects
As per the latest reports from the police department, the ex-wife had been stripped of her freedom after being named the principal suspect of the case. Their daughter, Kriti, has also been detained for further questioning. As of now, the case is still under investigation.
Alleged Confession Through Video Call
Pallavi, as per the information available, placed a video call to one of her friends after committing what has been dubbed a crime of passion, exclaiming, “I have killed the monster,” in a statement which will now form part of the investigation.
Motive Centered Around a Property Dispute
With regards to a case concerning a property dispute, which is said to involve land in Dandeli, Karnataka, is said to form a fair assertion of the premise for the murder. Just a few days prior, Pallavi was seen storming the police station in HSR Layout claiming she had opened a complaint for her issue, only to be rejected by the system. When the accepted complaint was not registered, she decided to stage a protest in front of the station.
Health Issues
Also emerging from the investigation was the fact that Pallavi was suffering from schizophrenia for which she was undergoing treatment.
History of the Victim
Om Prakash, aged 68, who was in the 1981 batch is a retired IPS officer. He resided in Champaran, Bihar and had a Master’s degree in Geology. He took over as the Director General of Police of Karnataka on March 1, 2015.
