
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the 2025-26 Budget in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday, with a sharp focus on the education sector. At ₹1 lakh crore, it is the largest budget in Delhi’s history.
Calling it a “historic day,” CM Gupta said the budget is not just about financial planning but a vision for a 'Viksit Dilli'—a developed and progressive capital.
Key Highlights: Education Sector Allocation
The 2025-26 budget includes several key initiatives aimed at strengthening the education system in Delhi:
₹100 crore allocated for setting up new “CM Shri Schools”
₹750 crore earmarked to distribute free laptops to 1,200 students passing Class 10
₹100 crore set aside to construct 175 new computer labs and smart classrooms
A talent hunt scheme will be launched with a funding of ₹5 crore
Language labs to be introduced in 100 government schools
The Maithili and Bhojpuri Academies get an increased budget of ₹6 crore
₹139 crore allocated to promote art and culture
A significant ₹618 crore will go toward developing an education hub in Narela
Plans are also in place to open a sports university in Delhi
Political Jabs and Vision for Unity
In her speech, CM Gupta contrasted her governance approach with the former AAP-led administration, stating:
“You made promises, we will fulfil them... You built Sheesh Mahal, we will build houses for the poor... You installed pot toilets worth lakhs, we will make real toilets in slum areas.”
She emphasized that her administration would focus on harmony, infrastructure for the underprivileged, and development-driven governance.
