Evening protest turned into vandalism; Police men injured while few protesters broke main gate glass while leaving the hospital.
By evening, the protest had become violent. Some protesters broke the glass of the main gate while leaving the hospital premises. Additional Superintendent of Police Alok sustained hand injury and ACP Narayan Bajiya received ear injury in the chaos.
The death of Deepak Kharwal, a contract nursing staff at SMS-the state's largest government hospital-created a stir and protest at the hospital's campus in SMS became so intensified with demise of a protested who had lost his job, that it turned into a protest hub. Colleagues of the deceased were staging sit-in outside emergency, that led to shutting of emergency service for five hours.
Protest outside emergency, inside patients feel helpless
Hundred of protest began staging protests outside the emergency block of the hospital. Slogans, sit-ins and chaos not only irked patients and their family members but also created long queues outside the hospital's emergency services and forced patients, who had arrived from across state to wait for hours and hospital authorities to work on normalcy restoration.
Brother claims death to be suspicious
Questioning the death of his brother, Deepak’s brother Mahesh Kharwal, said that it was not possible for his brother to commit suicide due to losing the job, demands the forensic examination of his brother's mobile and want justice, not political issues. He further alleged that body was not handed over to the family even after the post-mortem in time.
Negotiations between the hospital administration and the protesters have remained inconclusive.
Taking a cognisance of the protest, NHM Mission Director Jogaram, Medical education commissioner B L Goyal, collector Sandesh Nayak, ADM Yugantar Sharma and officials of SMS Medical College rushed to the site where repeated rounds of negotiations were held but protests continued till the demands of compensation and other related issue was not addressed.
By evening the stir turn violent and protest turn into rampage.
Day long protest and ruckus over death led to a heated situation in the evening wherein a group of protesters rushed to the main gate of the college campus and start vandalizing. The glass of main gate were broke which lead to mayhem and chaos followed by scuffle between police personnel and protesters.
Police officer injured in vandalism
During the scuffle, Additional Superintendent of Police Alok sustained hand injury and ACP Narayan Bajiya suffered an ear injury and were immediately rushed for treatment. Following the incident additional police forces were deployed at SMS Medical college premises to secure the site.
Unemployment issue of 460 contract nursing staff took center stage.
Actually, 859 nursing officers were recruited in the Contractual Hiring to civil posts Rules which lead to the dismissal of the contractual staff nurse who have been working since years on placement and were the members of contractual Nursing staff working at the campus, and on protesting their protest turned out to be violent following their dismissal of 460 contracted Nursing staff at SMS medical college for past few days.
Beniwal reach and politics also heated up.
With intervention and visit of RLP supremo Hanuman Beniwal at the mortuary to console the deceased's family after meeting them and assurance of justice, the protest became highly political.
Agreement reached late at night.
In aftermath of lengthy negotiation between administration and protesters few demands of compensation and a contract job for the wife and family was taken up for discussion which leads to some relief and the protest end as an agreement for compensation for the death was assured.
Compensation, job and assurance of scheme and facility
For which the deceased was granted entry to the Foster Care Scheme and Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme. Meanwhile, RLP assure 5 lakh for his family. Protests continued till then to subsided but question still remain on the mystery of death of Deepak Kharwal.
