Two more women have died after a caesarean delivery at a Kota hospital

The health of two more women admitted to the New Medical College and Hospital in Kota district, Rajasthan, has deteriorated. They have been transferred to a private hospital due to kidney failure. Previously, two women died on May 4th after cesarean deliveries. Several have kidney failure. Following this incident, the Collector and ADM City visited the private hospital at 10 pm on May 8th to inquire about the women's condition.

The New Medical College and Hospital administration has terminated the services of Dr. Shraddha, an operating surgeon and assistant professor (gynecology). She was posted to the medical college on contract. Dr. Navneet Sharma, associate professor (surgery), officer-in-charge of the emergency OT, Gurjit Kaur, sister-in-charge of the operating theater, and Nimesh Verma, sister-in-charge of the labor room, have also been suspended.

The Drug Control Department has banned the use of 24 types of medicines and equipment used in the gynecology ward (post-operatively). These are the medicines given to women after cesarean deliveries. Previously, six women at New Medical Hospital had deteriorated one after another after cesarean deliveries. Two of these women have died. A total of eight women have deteriorated at New Medical Hospital in the past four days.

Cesarean delivery worsened health

Surprisingly, despite the deteriorating health of six women, two more were taken to the same EOT (Emergency OT). Kiran underwent a cesarean delivery, and Shirin, who was six months pregnant, received stitches. Subsequently, their health deteriorated. Four days later, the investigation team has yet to determine the cause of the women's deterioration.

2 women died

In fact, after the cesarean delivery on May 3rd, Sushila was admitted to the post-operative ward at 5:40 pm, Chandrakala at 3:30 am on May 4th, Ragini at 11:43 am, Payal at 12:58 pm, Jyoti at 1:35 pm, and Dhanni at 4:03 pm. Payal's health deteriorated first around 12 midnight on May 4th. Five other women followed suit. Payal and Jyoti died within 48 hours.

Two other women admitted to the hospital on May 5th also complained of urinary retention and kidney infections. One of them had a cesarean delivery. The other, a six-month pregnant woman, had stitches in her uterus. Due to deteriorating health, one woman was shifted to a private hospital at 7:30 pm on May 7th, and the other at 11 am on May 8th. Both women underwent dialysis at the private hospital. The administration has launched an investigation into the matter. The reasons behind the woman's deterioration are being investigated.
