China on Friday said it will not participate in next week’s G-20 tourism working group meeting in Jammu and Kashmir and it “firmly” opposes such a meeting in the disputed region.

China is a close ally of Pakistan. India will host the third meeting of the G-20 Tourism Working Group in Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, from May 22 to 24. Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday said the G-20 meeting in Srinagar is a great opportunity for Jammu and Kashmir to show its true potential. Singh said that such an international event in Srinagar would send a positive message to the country and the world.

China’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told a press conference here that China firmly opposes holding any kind of G-20 meeting in the disputed region. He said that we will not attend such meetings. Pakistan and China have made wrong comments in the past regarding the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. India has already rejected the statements of China and Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, Pakistan had also protested

There has been a standoff between India and China in eastern Ladakh for three years. Bilateral ties came under severe strain in June 2020 following a fierce clash in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh. India has said that until there is peace in the border area, bilateral relations cannot be normal. Earlier, Pakistan has also been opposing the G-20 meeting from the beginning.

The reason is that in the year 2019, India removed Articles 370 and 35A from Jammu and Kashmir. After that, the rulers of Pakistan have raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir many times on the international platform. India has given a straight answer that Kashmir is India’s internal issue, it will not listen to anyone on this.
