In one of the most gripping moments of the DC vs LSG clash, Ashutosh Sharma showcased nerves of steel to pull off a stunning win. With just six runs needed off the final over and No.11 Mohit Sharma on strike, the equation was tense. A close LBW call, a missed stumping by Rishabh Pant, and a desperate single later, Ashutosh sealed the match with a powerful hit, cementing his reputation as a dependable finisher.
Unfazed by Pressure
Despite the nerve-racking situation, Ashutosh remained calm. “I was confident. Whether it was an appeal or not a run—it wasn’t part of my batting. I was sure that if Mohit took a single, I could hit a six,” he said after the match.
Ashutosh finished with a sensational display that included two boundary hits in the penultimate over and a composed final blow.
From 65/5 to a Winning Chase of 210
Walking in at 65/5 in the seventh over, Ashutosh entered a tough scenario with the required rate touching 10 runs per over. But the 26-year-old batter, known for his composure and clean ball-striking, turned the chase around with a blend of calculated shots and explosive hitting.
“I followed the basics, believed in my ability, and just wanted to go deep into the innings. I focused on staying there till the slog overs,” he said.
Focused Growth After a Promising Debut Season
Having made his IPL debut in 2024 with Punjab Kings, Ashutosh had already shown glimpses of brilliance. But he emphasized that he was determined not to rest on past success. “Last year was really good, but that’s history. I worked on my weaknesses and applied what I learned during domestic cricket.”
He added that he had visualized finishing games and focused on achieving that goal throughout the year.
Teamwork and Tribute
Ashutosh praised fellow batter Vipraj Singh for his composure in pressure moments. “He was very calm. I asked him to keep hitting, and he delivered,” Ashutosh said, dedicating his Player of the Match award to his mentor, Shikhar Dhawan.
