On Tuesday, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya condemned the reported violent attack on Bhagavat reciter Shri Hiranmoy Goswami Maharaj in Dharampur village, located in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district. Malviya alleged that the spiritual figure was subjected to a life-threatening assault, which included being attacked with a sharp weapon, a noose tied around his neck, and his sacred matted hair (jata) forcibly cut.
Allegations of Political Intimidation Over Religious Chants
According to Malviya, the assault followed a prior confrontation involving individuals allegedly linked to the Trinamool Congress (TMC). During a Bhagavat recitation, Goswami Maharaj was reportedly asked to stop chanting religious slogans such as “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” “Hindu Sanatan Dharm Ki Jai,” “Gau Mata Ki Jai,” and “Jai Shri Ram.” Malviya claimed the spiritual leader refused to comply, leading to the alleged retaliation.
Sharing the account on platform X (formerly Twitter), Malviya wrote, “This brutal attack is an act of retaliation driven by the TMC’s vote bank politics. The space for Hindu religious freedom in Bengal is shrinking at an alarming rate.”

Accusations Against Trinamool Congress
Malviya directly blamed the ruling TMC for enabling an environment that threatens religious practices. He claimed this incident is yet another example of how Hindu voices are being silenced in the state for political gain.
A video of the alleged incident was shared by Malviya on social media, further intensifying the political row between the BJP and TMC in West Bengal.
