
Expectations from Budget 2025: On February 1 Nirmala Sitharaman who is the Union Minister for Finance will present the Union Budget for the financial year 2025 2026, that will the Minister for the eighth time. This will also be the second budget since Modi has continued his term as the Prime Minister of India for a third time. Like the last two, make this year zero revise minimum all someone expects turning every year to complete success. However, this budget is largely awaited in the health sector and as the part of the general public, the citizens are looking for the medical treatment costs to be heart friendly to ease the burden, however hospitals and the drug suppliers seem to be waiting for the revenue rush.
Health sector: Demand for better services and more budget allocation
As a means to aid their revenue generation while making their services economically feasible, hospitals in the country are requesting to be relieved from GST. Dr PN Arora, Commander of Yashoda Super Specialty Hospital in Ghaziabad, argued that considering the Indian context, health services can be made more affordable with a lower input GST. On the same point, Dr Arora also addressed the unverifiable discrepancy between insurance premiums and the claims which was filed, and which called for a swift response. He urged the government to seize this opportunity to start resolving this issue and corrective actions in the next budget.
Further, Dr Arora recommended an increase in the budget allocation for public health facilities along with provisions to aid the private health sector to enable true and affordable health services for all people.
He also highlighted the need to enhance the service delivery in unsettled areas with the aim of providing affordable and quality treatent in smaller cities, towns, and districts. It is the prevailing view of Dr Arora that, in light of government interventions on these areas, health care systems will be equitable and widely availble in the country.
Aggregate an estimated budget of ` 90,659 crore was allocated to the Ministry for Health and Family Welfare for the year 2024-25 which is 1.9 % of the gross domestic product of the country.
