Throughout the three year conflict between Russia and Ukraine, it has been reported that Russia has been estimated to have used around 51,000 guided bombs. As per the Air Force of Ukraine, These bombs are exceedingly destructive and escaping them is quite hard. A bomb that was made during the Soviet time which is equipped with a satellite navigation system along with wings to boost range and precision is classified to be a guided bomb. Unlike ballistic and cruise missiles these bombs are an economical option and are much stronger compared to cruise missiles making them economical. This gives them an edge when it comes to laying waste to heavily fortified positions which Ukraine has been losing over the course of several month in the eastern region of the country. The Soviet styled bomb is reported to have been used around forty thousand times in Ukraine. As per the armed forces of Ukraine, the regions close to the contact line, and borders with Russia tend to be used the most. Just yesterday it was reported that Zaporizhzhia’s southern city residential area was targeted with guided bombs resulting in buildings being in rubbles and causing several civilian casualties.
Guided bomb attacks had previously been observed to be employed by Russia, and on Thursday ground targeted missile attacks were carried out on Kherson’s residential regions which led to casualties of more than 6 Ukrainians.
A bomb was deployed by the Ukrainians during the war of 1939, and even today its most effective defense is said to be targeting the planes and air force bases.
