The Pune civic body determined unfitness to drink in FAAN and PLFS certified RO plant water thus leading to the closure of 19 private RO plants operating in Nanded village where GBS first emerged.

Four new suspected Guillain-Barré syndrome cases appeared in Pune district throughout the day which increased the total number of confirmed cases throughout Maharashtra to 170. The private reverse-osmosis (RO) plants based in Dhayari-Nanded distributed water bottles to many people living in this area before municipal officials sealed the facilities. After the crackdown on contaminated water suppliers the water supply department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) stated their plans to create standard operating procedures (SOPs) to block circulation of unclean water in the same area.

The PMC found during water tests of 19 privately owned RO plants operating in Nanded and neighboring areas that their output water was not suitable for human consumption. Prithviraj P B the PMC additional commissioner stated that the 19 RO plants were sealed after their operations were discontinued.

Nandkishor Jagtap who leads the PMC water supply department reported the discovery of Escherichia coli bacteria in water samples obtained from the 19 affected RO plants. After discovering E. coli contamination the PMC asked private water suppliers to use bleaching powder solutions given by the department to prevent the bacterium from spreading according to the department head.

The members of the GBS outbreak investigation team reported to the media on Tuesday that drinking water supplied to suspected patients in Nanded village and Sinhagad Road localities did not contain chlorine. The brain disorder GBS creates sudden limb weakness and numbness as its main symptoms while also resulting in severe limb-related muscle problems.
