The International Cricket Council (ICC) has begun its four-day Board and Committee Meetings in Harare, Zimbabwe, marking the first time the country has hosted such a high-profile cricket governance event.

"This is a proud and historic moment for Zimbabwe Cricket and our country as a whole," said ZC chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani. “We are prepared to welcome the world’s cricket leaders and showcase Zimbabwe’s beauty, warmth, and hospitality.”

ICC Chair Jay Shah Among Attendees

Top officials, including ICC Chair Jay Shah, are part of the gathering that began on April 10 in Harare. After two days of meetings in the capital, the discussions will shift to the scenic Victoria Falls on April 12 and 13.

The meetings will cover key governance, strategic, and operational topics, although the formal agenda has not been publicly disclosed.

Olympic Cricket Likely to Be a Key Discussion Point

With the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics recently confirmed, the topic is expected to feature in informal discussions. Only six men’s and women’s teams will participate, and identifying qualifying teams will pose a challenge for ICC members.

Sources suggest that the United States may receive an automatic berth due to its host status, though a formal decision is unlikely during this week’s discussions.

Zimbabwe’s Global Cricketing Profile Gets a Boost

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) described the meetings as a “major milestone” for its international profile. Hosting ICC Board members and key cricketing officials is seen as a validation of the nation’s growing relevance in global cricket.

“This event underscores Zimbabwe’s growing role in the global cricketing landscape and presents us with a unique platform to engage with key stakeholders in shaping the future of the game,” Mukuhlani added.
