
Women’s rights have been under attack and “we must fight back,” said United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in yet another instance of into his disarrayed world. At a UN sponsored conference there had days before concerning International Women’s Day, Guterres claimed ages of discrimination directed towards women was calling for extraordinary new threats.
As he mentioned on Friday, “Digital tools, while brimming with promise, are also often silencing women’s voices, amplifying bias, and fuelling harassment. Women’s bodies have become political battlegrounds.”
“Women’s bodies have become political battlegrounds”. Those were the parting words he condensed everything into after saying, “And online violence is escalating into real-life violence. Instead of mainstreaming equal rights, we are witnessing the mainstreaming of chauvinism and misogyny.”
Guerres called the world to arms, pronouncing to them that it wasn’t simply a battle on fairness focused gender equality. “It is about power – who gets a seat at the table, and who is locked out,” he offer, “It is about equal suppression of colliding structures that permit discriminatory prejudices to thrive, And it is about making sure the whole wide world would have the access to a better place.”
