At a recent tech event in China, smartphone maker Vivo announced a major expansion into AI, robotics, and mixed reality (MR) with the debut of its first MR headset, Vivo Vision, and the launch of the Vivo Robotics Lab.
This move signals Vivo’s intent to become a key player in the evolving AI and extended reality (XR) ecosystem, competing with global tech giants like Apple, Samsung, and Google.
Vivo Vision: The Company’s First Mixed Reality Headset
Vivo’s new headset, Vivo Vision, marks its official entry into the MR space—a sector gaining momentum as more companies invest in spatial computing. Apple’s Vision Pro recently entered the market, while Samsung and Google are also developing similar technologies.
While pricing and availability details for Vivo Vision remain under wraps, the announcement reinforces Vivo’s push to diversify beyond smartphones and explore new consumer technologies powered by AI.
New Robotics Lab to Drive AI and Computer Vision Innovation
Hu Baishan, Chief Operating Officer of Vivo, revealed that the newly established Vivo Robotics Lab will focus on creating the “brain” and “eyes” of consumer robots. The lab aims to advance:
AI learning models
Computer vision systems
Real-time spatial computing
These innovations will power home-use and personal robotics, helping Vivo bring practical AI products to the mass market.
“We’re moving from lab research to real-world application,” Hu said, stressing that practicality and user feedback will guide product development.
Competing in a Crowded MR and AI Market
With tech heavyweights already active in the MR space, Vivo’s Vision headset adds to a growing list of devices aiming to reshape how users interact with digital environments. Vivo plans to incrementally evolve its MR product line based on emerging use cases and consumer needs.
The company also sees potential in AI-integrated robotics, aiming to transform daily tasks and home automation through intelligent, camera-aware machines.
