Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced a major update for WhatsApp users: the ability to add music to photo-based Status updates. Similar to Instagram Stories, this new feature lets users select a song from a built-in library and overlay it on a photo, making their updates more expressive and personalized.
How the Music Feature Works
The new Status music feature allows users to add a track to any image they upload as a WhatsApp Status. When others view the Status, the selected music plays automatically in the background. This addition brings WhatsApp closer to other Meta-owned platforms like Instagram and Facebook in terms of creative features.
Steps to Add Music to WhatsApp Status
Here’s how to use the feature:
Open WhatsApp and go to the ‘Updates’ tab.
Tap the camera icon labeled ‘Add Status’.
Choose or capture a photo for your Status.
Tap the new music icon at the top of the screen.
Browse and select a song from the music library.
Choose the section of the song to include.
Adjust the music sticker placement if needed.
Post your Status with the selected background track.
Key Details to Know
The feature supports licensed music only from WhatsApp’s built-in library.
User-uploaded music is not supported yet.
The music auto-plays when the Status is viewed.
Works on both Android and iOS devices.
Photo Status duration: up to 15 seconds.
Video Status duration: up to 60 seconds.
The rollout is gradual, so it may take time to reach all users.
