
The plausible humanitarian initiatives in Myanmar face permanent infrastructural obstructions owing to damaged humanitarian roads and other vital components needed for such operations to funciton UN OCHA reported on Saturday.
OCHA indicated that a 7.7 magnitude earthquake last Friday caused widespread damages to critical components, including major bridges and roads that are essential to humanitarian operations facilitating the access to the areas of most need.
On its statement, the UN diivision declared, “Service disruptions on the expressway connecting Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay due to cracks and surface distortions also resulted in the suspension of operations of highway buses.”
The agency claimed that hospitals in central and northwestern regions of Myanmar are currently not able to handle the large number of individuals suffering from the injuries inflicted by the earthquake. On March 30, seventeen cargo trucks containing shelter and medical supplies are expected to alleviate the current shortage of vital medicines like blood bags and anaesthetics.
The foreign rescue operatives that had been previously blocked by Myanmar's military commanders due to internal conflicts, were permitted into the country on the saturday following the earthquake which alone caused 1600 plus deaths thereby rendering it the most deadly natural disaster that has ever hit the impoverished nation recently.
