The main contest in the by-election on the Meerapur assembly seat is between Sumbul Rana of Samajwadi Party and Mithilesh Pal of RLD. Let us tell you that RLD and BJP are in alliance together. Bahujan Samaj Party has fielded Shahnajar, AIMIM has fielded Mohammad Arshad and Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) has fielded Zahid Hussain from Meerapur.

Who is moving forward?

The counting of votes for the by-election held on the Meerapur assembly seat is underway. 17 out of 24 rounds of counting have been completed in the area. RLD’s Mithilesh Pal has got 60788 votes. She is leading by 20751 votes. SP’s Sumbul Rana has got 40037 votes. In third place, Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram)’s Zahid Hussain has got 17372 votes. AIMIM’s Mohammad Arshad has got 13903 votes.

On Wednesday, SP President Akhilesh Yadav demanded the suspension of the inspector who brandished a pistol. He posted a video on Twitter and said, “The Election Commission should immediately suspend the Kakaroli police station in-charge of Meerapur because he is stopping voters from voting by threatening them with a revolver.” In this video, a policeman can be seen allegedly stopping women from voting at gunpoint.
