The Iran-backed Houthi rebels claim that U.S. airstrikes conducted on the boundaries of the Red Sea port city of Hodeida have led to the death of six individuals and injury of sixteen others.

The al-Hawak district which is reported to include the rebel airport, was indeed previously utilized by the rebels to stage incursions on maritime traffic shuttling through the Red Sea region.

The Houthi's have been citing airstrikes conducted by US forces in the Israel-Hamas warfare region with an intention to contain Houthi strikes on shipping vessels as the reason for 79 fatalities claimed by the Houthis since claiming airstrike came alongside countering Houthi aggression on maritime vessels.

The al-Masirah channel broadcast alarming footage of rescuers scavenging wreckage with mobile lights, while frantic scenes of the injured being rushed to ambulances captured the aftermath. Based on the footage, it appeared that the assault targeted a civilian area.

In addition, the Houthis claimed that the U.S. air strikes also targeted telecommunications facilities in Amran governorate, hitting Jebel Aswad, or Black Mountain, and stricken Gebel Nuqum, Dhamar and Ibb with three reported injuries. These claims have yet to be substantiated by US Central Command due to their prevailing inconspicuous operations policy regarding unpublicized engagements.

Strikes can be carried out at will since the authority was granted by the White House on March 15. “The American military hasn't been providing any information on targets hit,” although the Whitehouse comments, “over 200 strikes have been conducted so far.”

In the Oval Office on Monday, U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, alongside Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, reaffirmed the US stands on the airstrikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen. He cautioned, “Not going to relent” and added, “So, we have a lot more options and a lot more pressure to apply. And we know, because we see the reports, how devastating this campaign has been. And we will not relent, reported AP.”

As per an Associated Press review, the perception the current US military operation looks to be significantly more extensive in scope than the one under Donald Trump is in the Biden administration. Previously, the focus was on the launch sites, but now it includes urban areas controlled by the rebels as well as suburbs housing their leaders.

This intensified campaign came after the Houthis warned their intent to resume to target “Israeli” ships in retaliation for Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza. The rebels use the term “Israeli” ships rather loosely, which puts a number of vessels at risk.

As of November 2023, the Houthis have assaulted more than 100 merchant vessels. Two of these ships were sunk during the assaults, and four sailors were killed. Attempts have also been made to target U.S. warships, though those attempts have not been successful. The airstrikes have been connected by the Trump administration to an overarching attempt to use force against Iran in regard to their nuclear program.
