The tenure of the village heads of the gram panchayats of Uttar Pradesh was to end on May 26th, but prior to that there has been a hurry in disbursing the remaining money in the panchayat accounts, and payments have been faked by violating the rules in 35 gram panchayats in Ghatampur, Sarsaul, Bhitargaon, Chaubepur, Kalyanpur, Patara, Shivrajpur and Bidhanu blocks out of 590 gram panchayats in Kanpur (565 panchayats in the state have complied with the rules), amounting to approximately 38.41 lakh. An amount of 22.11 crore was paid in 74 districts of the state.

A large amount of Rs 22.11 crore has also been faked in 74 districts in 2542 gram panchayats of the state. Following this, the Director Panchayati Raj has sought explanation from the DPO of all the districts. Action has been initiated against the said secretaries.

The village head has been made the administrator.

For the first time in the history of Uttar Pradesh, the administration of the village heads has been assigned to the gram pradhans. Keeping in view the delay in holding the 3-tier panchayat elections, it has been decided to hand over the management of gram panchayats to the gram pradhans. The tenure of the gram pradhans was till May 26th for a five-year term. The gram pradhans outgoing now have been managing them as administrators since May 27th. They will manage the gram panchayats for the next 6 months or till the first meeting of the new gram panchayat is held after the panchayat elections, whichever is earlier. This has been decided at the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In 2021 a total of 58195 gram pradhans of Uttar Pradesh were elected, the first meeting of the gram pradhan of the Gram Panchayat of Uttar Pradesh was held on May 27, 2021. After this the tenure of the gram pradhan has ended on May 26, 2021 for 5 years.
