This is how the 'mafia' behaves with countries that are friendly to them during his second term. The case with Ukraine is distinct. Of late, he has suspended US military aid to Ukraine. This is Trump’s decision that has seemed to correlate with the ‘Oval Office’ unprecedented explosion of confrontation between the Ukrainian president Zelensky and US commander Trump. Currently, it looks like Ukraine is completely cornered, although European countries are backing it, but without Ukraine’s active involvement, they are not going to gain anything out of it.
What does America want?
Around 3 year back, Russia had begun to destroy Ukraine. Now, America, the so called partner, is acting the same way. America expects Ukraine to submit and accept a contract that provides for the transfer of 50% of its mineral resources or ceding 20% of its territory. Furthermore, Ukraine should not entertain any other form of defense, including NATO membership. America is needed by Ukraine, that is why President Zelensky also traveled to America to sign the mineral agreement, but that did not happen after the shouting match with Trump, so that agreement never got signed.
Ukraine has been left isolated
Because of this lack of agreement, Trump has now exercised his prerogative to halt all military support to Ukraine immediately. Now Ukraine is in a bind, but does not know how to resolve the problem, as they have been totally abandoned. This is so because Ukraine is not a super powered nuclear state. But once upon a time, Ukraine used to be relatively stronger than how it is today.
Around 2000 nuclear weapons were in the possession of Russia.
To the point, after the disintegration of the superpower USSR in the year 1991, Ukraine became the 3rd nuclear superstate after United States of America and Russia.
As of that date, Ukraine possessed approximately 2000 nuclear warheads and 176 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) which were acquired from the Soviet Union. However, possession of these weapons was not entirely in Ukraine's favor, because they were controlled by Russia on a higher level. One day comes when Ukraine is left with absolutely nothing. Thinking of this day, I am sure the people of Ukraine must be cursing it till date.
He was unable to accomplish what he promised…!
On December 5th, 1994, Ukraine signed the ‘Budapest Memoradum’ alongside the United States, Russia, and Britain. With this agreement, Ukraine was obligated to give up its nuclear weapons and be considered a non-nuclear nation under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Russia, United States, and Britain guaranteed to Ukraine their independence and they pledged not to militarily invade Ukraine. In exchange, Ukraine would receive economic assistance and guarantees for their grant. Nevertheless, the reality of today seems to be just the other way round.
So much international pressure was also aimed towards India
From this perspective, one must always remember the contribution of Ex Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee for their role in making Indira Gandhi Apart from America trying to stop the Indian testing of nuclear weapon. They did a lot of work in trying to prevent India from testing nuclear weapons and India never agreed to their proposals. India was provided with the option of signing the CTBT i.e. Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty but India did not sign it.
American delegation visits India
A number of high-ranking officials and representatives from America also made a trip to India in hopes of convincing the leadership to consent to the CTBT. A lot of cunning Indian leaders were smart enough to not fall into this trap and decided that India will be looked as upon as a global power which is why we have nuclear weapons today. It is clear that the leaders of India must have thought that we might need to be self reliant in the future.
