The farmers’ Delhi march has been stopped at the Shambhu border on the Punjab and Haryana border. A group of 101 farmers started a march on foot towards Delhi on Friday, but they were stopped after a few meters. Haryana Police has asked the farmers not to proceed further. Ambala district administration has also banned illegal gatherings of five or more persons in the district. A large number of security personnel have been deployed on the Haryana border. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chauhan said in Rajya Sabha
On the whole issue, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said in the Rajya Sabha that the Narendra Modi government will buy all agricultural produce at the minimum support price. During the Question Hour, on the issue of MSP to farmers, he told the House, “I want to assure the House through the Chairman that all the produce of the farmers will be bought at the minimum support price. This is the Modi government and Modi’s guarantee is guaranteed to be fulfilled.” He said, “When our friends on the other side were in power, they had said on record that they cannot accept the recommendations of the MS Swaminathan Commission, especially the matter of giving 50 percent more than the cost of production. I have the record.”
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan claimed, “The previous UPA government never respected farmers and never seriously considered the demands of farmers for remunerative prices. I want to assure the House through you that from 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to calculate the minimum support price by giving 50 percent profit on the production cost to the farmers.” Shivraj Singh Chauhan also claimed that the Modi government is already giving remunerative prices to farmers. He said that paddy, wheat, jowar, and soybean have been purchased at 50 percent more than the production cost for three years. He also cited export duty and interference in changing prices when the prices of commodities fall.
