The 80-Year-Old Groom’s Short-Lived Vows: Why Bijnor’s ‘Inspirational’ Wedding Ended in Divorce
We often hear that it’s never too late to find love or companionship. In March 2025, the residents of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, celebrated exactly that when 80-year-old Kamruddin and 75-year-old Naseema Khatoon tied the knot. It was a wedding that went viral, seen as a beautiful answer to the loneliness often felt in old age.
Fast forward just one year, and the same village is witnessing a very different conclusion. The "inspirational" couple has officially parted ways, proving that even at 80, the complexities of marriage don't get any easier.
A Union Built on Hope
Kamruddin, a resident of Nahtaur, and Naseema, from Nagina, married with the full support of their families. The idea was simple: to provide each other with support and companionship in their twilight years. It was a social media sensation—a story of two people deciding that age shouldn't stop them from starting over.
The Turning Point: Expectations vs. Reality
The honeymoon phase didn’t last long. Just a few months in, the cracks began to show. Naseema Khatoon has since shared her side of the story, making several serious allegations that have sparked a heated debate online.
According to Naseema, the promises made before the wedding were far from the reality she faced. She claimed Kamruddin had promised that his granddaughters would handle the cooking and household chores so she could live comfortably. Instead, she found herself living in a separate house, expected to work like a much younger woman.
"At 80, he expected me to work like a young girl and insisted on things I couldn't keep up with," Naseema reportedly said, explaining her decision to move back to her daughter’s home.
Attempts at Peace Failed
The local village head, Abrar, noted that several "panchayats" (community meetings) were held to save the marriage. Kamruddin was reportedly keen on making it work and tried to persuade Naseema to stay. However, Naseema remained firm.
Realizing that the bitterness had reached a point of no return, Kamruddin finally signed the divorce papers with a heavy heart. The separation was finalized through mutual consent as a social arrangement, without involving the police or courts.
